Another Ascot victory for FULL REIGN

After his very unlucky run last week, FULL REIGN was made an odds-on favourite to win the 40 Year Member Sean O’Sullivan Handicap over 1800 metres on Saturday.

A small but select field went to post, and the main concern for connections was the pace of the race. Soon after barrier rise, jockey William Pike positioned FULL REIGN just behind the pace-making Mavromata. He never let the leader out of his sights, and at the 200 metre mark he pushed FULL REIGN into the lead. The Blackfriars gelding, to his credit, kept up a relentless gallop to the line, defying 59 kilos to win by a long head from the fast-finishing Mantango.

This was FULL REIGN’s 4th Metro win this prep, and the horse may soon go for a spell before being prepared for bigger targets next spring. Our photograph shows owner Serge Madrigali, with Peter, winning jockey William Pike, and old friend Rocky Dagostino.

The stable nearly had a double with DU PRINTEMPS, who was narrowly beaten in the fourth race of the day by the favourite Ready Raider, after looking the winner until the last 20 metres. A win beckons in the near future.
