Bunbury double for the Loves

Bunbury’s popular pre-Christmas fixture took place on Sunday. The stable had a number of runners, and we were rewarded with a double!

PRENTICE was well supported to break his long run of outs in the B&B Cabinets Handicap over 1675 metres. The early pace in the race was set by the outsider Spillane and the favourite Diva Rose, with PRENTICE forced to race wide all down the back straight. The leaders tried to go for home on the bend, and the Blackfriars gelding was pushed 4 wide as the field straightened. At the 200 metre mark the favourite Diva Rose went clear, hotly pursued by PRENTICE. Under a maximum drive from Jarrad Noske, the horse responded gamely, and gradually wore down the favourite to win by a long head on the line.

This was a terrific performance by horse and jockey, and it was great to see PRENTICE back in the winner’s enclosure for the first time since September 2014. Dan and Julie Love have been very patient with this once-promising gelding, so let’s hope this win will be the first of many now PRENTICE has got his confidence back.

In the next race, DISCORD WITCH was made favourite to win the CnW Electrical Wholesalers Handicap over 1100 metres. As the barriers opened, Fire Born flew to the front to take up the running in an attempt to make all. William Pike soon had DISCORD WITCH beautifully placed in 4th position on the rail. Well into the home straight it appeared that Fire Born had pinched the race, but William and DISCORD WITCH had other ideas and they caught the leader 50 metres from the post, then had to withstand the very late challenge of Scottish Trader. The Discoursi mare won by a short half head, but it was a brave performance, and brought up a welcome double for the stable and the Love family.

The stable’s horses are all in great form at the moment, and Peter and Matt are hoping for more winners in the next few meetings.
