CHARGER’s Belmont success

On a slow track, which he doesn’t really like, WILD CHARGER scored a deserved success at Belmont on Saturday.  The consistent gelding faced a competitive field in the Tabtouch – Your Industry Your Tab Handicap over 1400 metres.

In the early stages of the race WILD CHARGER was anchored at the back by young jockey Lucy Warwick as Rouge Dior cut out the early running. On entering the home straight the field spread out, looking for the best ground, so Lucy took WILD CHARGER to the outside of the field, down the centre of the track. The horse responded well to pressure and swept past his rivals,  to win by a short neck despite the late challenge of On The Ropes.

Owner Professor John Yovich, in his post-race interview, spoke proudly of the very game WILD CHARGER, and was also fulsome in his praise of Peter and Matt’s training of the old horse, and Lucy Warwick’s good ride.

After a short break WILD CHARGER will return for another Ascot campaign in the spring.
