WATERMAN’S BAY was a warm favourite for the Auto Classic Sprint over 1200 metres at Ascot on Saturday. The Eternity Range gelding loves this distance, and all that he required was a fast run race.

Fortunately Elliotto and Impatient Times ensured a good gallop from barrier rise, allowing Genn Smith to tuck WATERMAN’S BAY into a good position just behind the leaders. On entering the home straight Glenn moved WATERMAN’S BAY smoothly to the outside of the field and, by the 200 metre mark, the race was over. WATERMAN’S BAY quickened away in the manner of a good horse, winning by an effortless 1 3/4 lengths.

In a post race interview Peter was unsure of the next target for John and Sharon Molloy’s home bred galloper, but said that the Bunbury Stakes might be an option. The only drawback is that the race is over 1400 metres, and WATERMAN’S BAY much prefers the 1200 metres!!
