Dangerous Dane Wins Nexus Heat

It was St.George’s Day at Bunbury today, and everyone was delighted to be back racing again.

Dangerous Dane provided the highlight of the meeting for the stable, winning the first heat of the prestigious Nexus Series, over 1400 metres.

After his recent win at Pinjarra, Dane was a warm favourite to continue his winning ways. The horse jumped well from the barriers, and jockey Jarrad Noske had the gelding perfectly positioned just off the pace set by stable mate Jomatesi and Carpe Diem. There was little change in the order until the home straight, where Jarrad kicked Dane clear of his rivals. The horse stayed on strongly to the line, holding off the late challenge of Bow Road by a long head.

Earlier in the afternoon, in the St. George’s Bank Handicap over 1200 metres, Jungle Hawk ran a bold race to finish a close-up 3rd whilst his stable companion Chance In Time finished a most unlucky 6th having been held up for a run the whole length of the home straight.

The stable nearly had a winning double, when Core Asset made a gallant attempt to defy top weight in the St. George’s Trade Finance Handicap over 1400 metres. Unfortunately he couldn’t peg back the lightly weighted Cervino, and finished an honourable 2nd.
