First Kal win for WHISPERS

For the first time, the stable is experimenting with a small satellite yard for the Kalgoorlie season. Matthew has taken charge of this new venture, and has gone to Kal with a small team which will, hopefully, give owners a slice of the excellent Goldfields prize money, and do away with the often frustrating  trips to Northam. (Even if your horse gets a start!)

After the initial settling-in period, the horses are beginning to thrive, and the first winner of the campaign was MIDNIGHT WHISPERS on Thursday. The mare, who had run a promising 4th last time, was surprisingly unfancied for the Goldfields Toyota RSL/Legacy Handicap, over 1200 metres.

Jockey Willie White soon had MIDNIGHT WHISPERS well positioned mid-field, as Sugar Bun and Private Business set the early pace in the race. As is often the case at Kal, the field bunched on the entrance to the straight, with many horses having chances. It was Saxapak who made the first dash for victory, but Willie was poised to challenge on MIDNIGHT WHISPERS, and the mare responded well to catch the leader and win by a long head.

A very pleasing result all round, and hopefully the first of many for Matt in Kalgoorlie.
