Bunbury ran its first 2 year old maiden of the year on Thursday, over 1016 metres. In the SW Autumn Racing Carnival Maiden, RULING FORCE was the popular pick after his promising recent run at Ascot.

It was a competitive race and, as in most 2 year old races, the early stages were rather muddling, with Cyclone Sophie trying to make all. After a tardy start, Troy Turner had RULING FORCE back in the field. Once in the home straight the runners spread wide across the track, and Troy made steady progress on the Fath gelding, to reach the lead 100 metres from home. But dangers were everywhere, and RULING FORCE had to be punched out to the line, to hold off the late challenge of Miss Sadi, who was only beaten a nose.

It’s always nice to get your first 2 year old victory of the season, and popular owner breeder Serge Madrigali will be delighted to have another winner from his good mare Foretold. Let’s hope RULING FORCE continues to progress through his grades.
