OUR BRUCIE BONUS crosses the line

The stable had another good day at Bunbury’s twilight meeting on Friday, with two maiden winners.

In the TABtouch Maiden over 1000 metres, STINGRAY PETE was a warm favourite to break his duck. Jockey Jason Whiting rode a canny race, settling the horse off the early pace set by Miss Tora, and then quickening off the home turn. STINGRAY PETE responded well, and swept down the outside of the field to win by a cosy length on the line. The gelding, which Peter shares in ownership with long-time friends Ray Hawkins and family, is one of his home-breds out of his mare Miss Deburgh. There will surely be more to come from the Zedrich gelding.

Later in the afternoon, OUR BRUCIE BONUS ran in the Home Group WA maiden over 1200 metres. The Spirit Of Bunbury gelding had been knocking on the door and, despite his wide barrier, hopes were high. Jason Whiting had no choice but to drop BRUCIE in at the rear of the field, and ride for luck. On the home turn they were still in 9th place and chances looked slim, but when Jason asked BRUCIE to go he responded in impressive fashion, weaving his way through the field to win by a length with ears pricked. A great ride, and a good performance by BRUCIE, who has rewarded his owners’ patience at last!

OUR BRUCIE BONUS was bred by Andy and Pauline Streets from their mare Polish Mist. Let’s hope BRUCIE can continue to improve like his late father Bruce. A special thanks is due to Peter and his family for looking after the horse so well from his birth to today’s win.
