Bunbury’s last meeting of 2012 was held on Friday, and the stable’s main hope was LOUISIANA LADY in the final race, the Mining and Civil Australia Handicap over 1200 metres. After her recent Ascot mid-week win, the mare was made a firm favourite by punters.

The field did not hang around after barrier rise, with Sweet Johanna setting a sizzling pace along with Nozumi’s Lover. William Pike had LOUISIANA LADY settled off the speed, and waited until after the home turn to make his run. The mare responded well and battled hard all the way to the line to hold off the persistent challenge of Bitter Emu by a long head.

A great ride by William, and a terrific effort by LOUISIANA LADY, who has been a model of consistency this prep, with two wins, two 2nds, a 3rd and a 4th. Her owner-breeders Alan Anderson and friends should be justly proud of their mare.
