MR MUSTAFA secures Northam maiden win

The stable is just swinging back into action after the winter break, with many horses trialling. One of those who have been showing up well was MR MUSTAFA, an ex-Sydney galloper who has recently joined us. He was the popular pick for the Northam Toyota Maiden over 1100 metres on Thursday.

As the barriers opened, the stallion was quickly into his stride, and he shared the lead with Henney Shaker until well into the home straight. MR MUSTAFA began to draw away, under jockey Glenn Smith, and looked as though he would win very easily. In the last 100 metres, however, his stride began to shorten, and the winning post only came just in time, as he only won by a short half head from the renewed challenge of Henney Shaker and the fast-finishing Fleeting Glance.

This was a good start to MR MUSTAFA’s campaign in the West, and hopefully there will be many more opportunities in the coming months for this likeable son of Al Maher.
