Narrogin success for WHISPERS

After I’m Viking Crazy ran a close 2nd in the 1700 metre maiden, MIDNIGHT WHISPERS was our main fancy at Narrogin on Saturday.  The Zedrich mare contested the Tobacco-free and Feeling Good Handicap over 1100 metres.

The race was run at a blistering pace, with the favourite Venetian Queen attempting to make all. Sensibly, jockey Campbell McCallum settled MIDNIGHT WHISPERS mid-field to avoid the speed battle up front. As the pace dropped near the 200 metre mark MIDNIGHT WHISPERS came to the outside to challenge the leaders. In the closing stages she asserted her authority and won, eased down, by 1 1/2 lengths from Yerakina and Venetian Queen.

A pleasing win for MIDNIGHT WHISPERS, who had disappointed on her first run this prep. Let’s hope she can continue the winning thread next time up.
