PATRIOT GAMES Northam maiden win

After his recent York 2nd, PATRIOT GAMES was the popular pick for the Gannons Hats Handbags andĀ Horses MaidenĀ over 1600 metres at Northam on Sunday. The Trade Fair gelding had been showing improved form as he got over a distance, so hopes were high that he would break through in this 6 runner event.

The race was run at a sedate pace with Brandy Blitz leading the field from the barriers. PATRIOT GAMES was always well positioned, close up on the rail disputing 2nd. Late in the home straight, Troy Turner pushed PATRIOT GAMES up to challenge the leader and, in a driving finish, he prevailed by half a head.

Dr. John Yovich was delighted his home-bred had opened his account on his 10th attempt, and let’s hope there are more staying races for his gelding in the future.
