Spectacular win for SIXPENCE SPENT

Bunbury’s popular Sunday meeting was well supported by the stable, and most of the horses ran really well. The most impressive performance of the day was the maiden SIXPENCE SPENT who was making his racecourse debut.

The Vital Equine gelding was unfancied in the PhilMak Maiden over 1260 metres, where there was an odds-on favourite, Rocket Queen.

After a rather messy start to the race, the leaders were Kim Tasha and Special Words, with SIXPENCE SPENT in 3rd, but the gelding was going so well that jockey Jarrod Noske let him take up the running at the 800 metre mark. SIXPENCE SPENT kept up a relentless gallop and, when asked, he quickened again at the 300 metre mark and the race was over! Jarrod allowed the horse to cruise home a comfortable 2 lengths ahead of the field.  This was a most impressive debut, as SIXPENCE SPENT had had only one trial, so expect plenty of improvement.

This was another well-deserved winner for the Love family, and this WA-bred gelding looks to have a very bright future.
