Super Win For Friar’s Touch

In a very competitive field for the Carlton Draft Handicap over 1600 metres at Ascot, FRIAR’S TOUCH was one of the outsiders in the betting. However jockey Troy Turner was confident that the race would be run to suit, and as events turned out he was spot on with his evaluation of the race.

The strong early pace was set by Great Destiny and the favourite Late Night Flight. Turner positioned FRIAR’S TOUCH two lengths off the back of the field, and there he remained until the 200 metre mark, where the other runners bunched, allowing the 7 year old gelding to make his run down the outside. FRIAR’S TOUCH sprinted impressively to win going away by an easy 2 lengths.

This was a fantastic performance by the veteran horse, as this was his 51st start, and he has now won over $400,000. Peter was delighted with Troy Turner’s superb ride, and hopes that this combination can do it again in the Pinjarra and Bunbury Cups.

Managing owner Serge Madrigali is seen here leading in his winner.
