A mixed day for the team at Bunbury on Wednesday, with a 4th, a very close 2nd with LOUISIANA LADY, and a surprise victory for OTTUMWA.

Our win came in the trophy race, the WA Builders Handicap over 1420 metres. After his dismal effort last time, not surprisingly OTTUMWA was one of the outsiders of the field. Again things didn’t look great in the early part of the race, as he trailed the rest of the runners behind the pacemakes All Messed Up and Phenomenal Anemone. OTTUMWA was still last entering the home straight, but looked full of running as jockey Troy Turner started to urge the gelding through the field. To his credit OTTUMWA responded well and just caught the tiring leader Phenomenal Anemone in the shadow of the post to win by a short neck.

OTTUMWA is a very frustrating horse, both for trainer and owners, but despite trying everyone’s patience he manages a win most preps, so all’s good!
