Stable favourite WATERMAN’S BAY was not really considered by pundits for the Listed Chaff City Pinjarra Classic over 1300 metres because of his outside draw.

The top quality field was towed along by Sireeze and Red Hot Sax until well into the home straight. WATERMAN’S BAY and Troy Turner had no luck, being three wide most of the trip, and appeared to have no chance! The favourite Amorino looked odds-on to score as he charged to the lead, but WATERMAN’S BAY put in one of his trademark strong finishes to snatch the verdict by a head. An unlikely victory, but a well-deserved one by WATERMAN’S who, although he hadn’t won for 12 months, had run many terrific races in WA’s top sprints, including his 3rd in the Winterbottom.

Peter and Matt had never won the Chaff City Classic, and were very pleased to win this prestigious prize for owners John and Sharon Molloy, who have been great supporters of the stable. This victory pushed WATERMAN’S lifetime earnings through the $500,000 mark, which must be the record for an Eternity Range gelding!
